We’re only 1 of 4 major tournaments through the year, but Rory’s phenomenal triumph at the Masters will surely be the year’s most memorable golfing feat. After a lengthy 11-year major drought, Rory became the 6th player to have secured a career grand-slam.

A month has now passed and we’re eagerly awaiting to see how events will transpire at the PGA Championship this weekend. With the past 9 winners of the tournament being American since Jason Day won in 2015, will we be seeing another victory for the US this weekend? Or will someone from further afield be lifting the trophy come Sunday?

This is the 2nd time the Quail Hollow Club is set to host the major tournament, the first time being in 2017. A regular location for the Wells Fargo Championship, players are familiar with the challenging circuit on tour.

One such player that regularly succeeds at Quail Hollow is Rory McIlroy. He’s secured 4 individual wins at the course including his first PGA Tour victory in 2010. Designed by George Cobb, the 7,626-yard par-71 suits Rory’s style of play, especially off the tee.

He claims the course is structured in such a way that you can really let loose with the driver “This is a golf course that lets you hit driver a lot and you can really take advantage of length off the tee if you have it. It’s one of the big factors why I’ve been able to do so well here over the years.”

Rory is certainly among the favourites to win this weekend. Not only does he excel around Quail Hollow, he’s very in-form and already has three wins to his name this season so far, The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Players Championship, and The Masters.

Rory himself seems in good spirits and more at ease with himself since achieving his long-awaiting Masters victory. When speaking of Quail Hollow, the 36-year-old admitted he has nothing but good memories and is looking forward to competing this weekend:

“It’s a place that I’m very comfortable at. With Quail Hollow, the city of Charlotte in general and the people. All these people have watched me grow up. I won here for the first time as a 20-year-old. They’ve seen my progression throughout the years.”
