The race for the Masters Rory McIlroy has 15 million reasons to smile this week after winning the Tour Championship for the second time in his career - a record he now shares with a certain Mister Woods - and scooping a cool $15 million prize as a result. The Northern Irishman carded a final-round 66 to finish the week on 18-under-par, four shots clear of Xander Schauffele in second and five clear of playing partner Brooks Koepka. It was that Sunday pairing of McIlroy and Koepka that caught the eye as the two most dominant players on Tour this year went toe-to-toe in a Ryder Cup style battle. The duo are now ranked 1st and 2nd in the World Rankings, with Koepka occupying top spot as he has for most of 2019. Between them they have won eight majors (four each) but remarkably neither has claimed the Masters. Whilst it may seem a long way away, you can be sure the target for both these players in 2020 will be to make sure they don the Green Jacket at Augusta next spring. |
